Igor Tolstunov

Igor Tolstunov was born on 30 January 1957 in Moscow. In 1978 he graduated from the Economics Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK); he started his career as deputy director and director of film crews at the Gorky Film Studio (on the films Peter’s Youth, In the Beginning of the Glorious Deeds (both directed by S. Gerasimov, 1980) TASS is Authorized to Announce (television serial, 1984) Peter the Great (NBC, USA, 1983).

From 1990 to 1995 he served as executive director of TTL-Films. Since 1995 he owns and heads PROFIT (Igor Tolstunov Production Company), an independent film production company.

From 1995 until 2005 he was Director General of the film company NTV-PROFIT.

Since 2000 he heads the Department of Film and TV Production and Management at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors in Moscow.

From 2002 until 2006 he has been Deputy Director for in-house production of the television channel STS (CTC).

Membership in Professional and Public Organizations: European Film Academy (Felix Award); Russian National Film Academy (Nika Award), Russian Academy of Television (TEFI Award), Managing Board of the Russian Union of Filmmakers, Managing Board of the Russian Producer’s Guild.

From 2005 until 2010 he was the General Producer of the Open Russian Film Festival Kinotavr.

In 2005 he initiated the creation of the debut film studio "Proba" (under the aegis of the Russian Producer’s Guild), where beginning cinematographers could make their first films.

In 2005 Igor Tolstunov was included in the top five film producers "with perspective" by the Forbes magazine.
